Welcome To The Jungle…Pita Jungle, That Is.
If you can’t tell from my tweets, instagram photos, or blog posts, I’ve been in Heaven here in Phoenix with so many vegan options. I have no set schedule for visiting restaurants, stores, etc but I do promise to share my thoughts on those when I do visit. Sound good?
You can probably imagine my wishlist of places I want to try. After some discussion and input from Arizona twitter friends D and I set out for an early dinner at the Pita Jungle. From my understanding they are locally owned with many locations throughout Arizona and even into California. Their motto is “The Art of Eating Healthy.”
We expected a counter-service experience but were pleasantly surprised when we entered to find it was an actual sit-down restaurant. The vibe was a classy yet laid back, youthful feel. Most of the servers were high school or college age and wore regular street clothes (think Urban Outfitters style). I really enjoyed the color scheme and tin plated ceiling.
For an appetizer we selected the garlic dip with two pitas. The garlic dip is a mix of olive oil, lemon juice, fresh garlic, and smashed potatoes. If you love garlic, you’ll love this. Mmmm.
For his entree D chose the Falafel Pita which was topped with cilantro and spices, mixed greens, tomatoes, onions, pickles and tahini. He was very happy with his choice, although next time he’d ask for no onions.
I went with the Veggie Garden Wrap that included zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower, eggplant, yellow squash, carrots, onions, tomatoes, brown rice, mixed beans, ginger, herbs and garlic. Like D, I was thrilled with my choice of dish. And what a pretty presentation too?!
One thing we quickly found was that our entrees were HUGE. This is not a complaint in anyway. However, next go around we may share an entree. Either way, this visit, we had leftovers to take home for lunch the next day.
My twitter friends were right, Pizza Jungle does rock. Can’t wait to visit again and try some of their other dishes.
One last thing, I’m proud to announce that I received an invite to join the Phoenix Yelp Elite this week. I think this is pretty darn awesome and am thrilled with the invite. I look forward to venturing into the Phoenix area more and sharing my thoughts with you all!
Keep Smiling and Be Grateful =)
