I Need Kettlebells In My Life – Day 2 At The Arnold

See my Day 1 recap of the Arnold Sports Festival here.

I woke up early on Day 2 to meet our FitFluential CEO Kelly Olexa along with several other FitFluential Ambassadors for breakfast.  Prior to leaving I still ate 2 oranges and drank some Vega Sport Pre-Workout Energizer.  I knew I wasn’t going to workout but I also would appreciate the bit of energy it’d give me.

Once I arrived at the convention center I headed for the cafe and soon was united with Kelly, LisaRebekah, Elisabeth and Emily, Electra, Sahar, and Jana.  Chris and Dan from GNC also made it to the breakfast.  It was nice to put faces with so many names and personalities we’ve met online and there was no lack of conversation.

Everyone went with the breakfast buffet and left nice and full. I loaded up on lots o’ carbs ;)

I sat next to Lisa at breakfast. She is known as  Kettlebell Bombshell and is insanely knowledgable about so many topics. I had already wanted to add kettlebells to my workout, but after meeting her and seeing everything I saw this weekend I kept finding myself saying, “I need kettlebells in my life”.

Of course we grabbed some quick photo opportunities before heading to a full day at The Arnold.

After breakfast we all ventured out to experience the Arnold. I made it a point to hit up:

Cheerleading - I have a small background in cheerleading and although I’m not into all of the makeup and hairspray that goes with competition cheer, it’s still a ton of fun to watch.

Gymnastics – I’ve never competed but I LOVE LOVE LOVE to watch gymnastics.  It was nice to see the sport represented at The Arnold.

CrossFit - I spent more time at the CrossFit Games.  I still don’t see CrossFit for me in the future, but it did provided inspiration.  I need kettlebells in my life….

Martial Arts - They had judo, grappling, karate, and ju jitsu. I’ll be honest, I don’t know the difference between all of them.

I also spent a ton of time in the expo grabbing photos of celebrities and pro-athletes.

And a group of us hit up the GNCLiveWell booth and has some fun with their crew.  They were so fun and welcoming. We had a good time.

Muscles everywhere!  I need kettlebells in my life.

Thankfully we were able to find another FitFluential Ambassador Lindsay and she joined in the fun.

We started talking fitness and pistol squats.  She gave us a demonstration and has since issued us a challenge.

After a full day at The Arnold a group of us headed out to dinner at the Cheesecake Factory.  After a 2 hours wait  (Yes, 2 hours.  I’ve never waited that long in my life…thankful for excellent company!) we chowed down.  It was fun to hear about what everyone does for a living and what their blog is about.  Lisa and Rebekah provided a ton of info and I took notes.  Seriously.

The entire weekend was an experience I’ll never forget.  I learned way more than I expected, met new people, stepped outside of my norm, and can’t wait for my next FitFluential adventure.  Wonder where I’ll go next…

Thank you GNC and FitFluential for this opportunity!

Keep Smiling and Be Grateful =)

PS I just ordered Kettlebell Bombshell DVDs and plan to purchase some kettlebells within the next few days.  Making my, “I need kettlebells in my life” a reality!

Fake It ‘Til You Make It – Day 1 At The Arnold

This past weekend I was fortunate enough to be sponsored by GNC to represent FitFluential at the Arnold Sports Festival Oh boy!  I’m not exactly sure where to start when it comes to my Arnold experience.  Let’s start with “Wow.”

As I already posted, I knew there were other sports involved in the Arnold Sports Festival prior to venturing down to Columbus.  With that being said, I still made a point to throw out all preconceived notions and jump head first into the experience.  The weekend was full of learning and new experiences.

My motto for the Day 1 was “Fake it til you make it.” (Thank you Heather for the inspiration ;)) I woke up early, drove 2 hours to Columbus, strapped on my 4 cameras, and hit up the media room first to get my media pass/kit.

So official!

The first thing I noticed was the sheer volume of people.  People lined up from end to end of the convention center just waiting for the expo doors to open.  I knew I’d get to the expo later so I wandered through the convention center taking it all in and shooting photos.

A little later I was able to hook up with fellow FitFluential Ambassador Electra and her boyfriend Adam.  Although I was cool with being alone, it’s always fun to have some partners in crime, so we spent some of the day together.  Electra used to compete so it was nice when she’d point out a pro-athlete or when Adam would discuss different training options/types/techniques with me.

As the day went on I became more comfortable using my media pass to get closer to the action. I checked out….

Lots of CrossFit - This was the first time I’ve ever seen CrossFit in real life.  Whoa.  Still don’t think it’s for me, but it was interesting to watch.

Fencing – As with CrossFit I had never seen fencing in real-life.  I was amazed at how sweaty they were after their matches.  (is that what you call them?) But I guess it makes sense given how many layers of clothes you have on.  I wasn’t quite able to figure out the rules, but it was definitely interesting.

Armwrestling – That’s a bit intense.

Lots of lifting - whether powerlifting, lifting cars, or strongman.  It was there.  Ooof!  So strong.

Art At The Arnold - I think it’s awesome that they have added in this aspect.  Artists come out to make their own interpretation of various athletic models.

I caught a glimpse of Arnold! That’s him in the middle.

I also became confident in speaking with companies throughout the expo, especially those that aligned with my lifestyle.  I even passed out a few of my new business cards! I’ll admit, many companies at the expo were advertising supplements or a sport that I have no desire to venture into, but I still stopped to check out their information and to learn what they were all about.  Although it may not be for me, that’s no reason for me not to learn something new.  In addition, even though I was a pale, non-buff person no one held that against me and I found most everyone to be friendly and welcoming, whether competitors, exhibitors, or other attendees.

In the late afternoon I was able to meet up with another FitFluential Ambassador, Rebekah, and her family for dinner.  Rebekah has an overabundance of information to provide in fitness, healthy living, and blogging that we sat for several hours chatting away.  She shares many of the same viewpoints as I do on living a clean, sustainable, healthy life, so sitting there talking to her I felt as though I’ve known her for years.  I’m in love with the girl.  What an all around awesome person! I failed to get a photo of us at dinner.  Whoops!

Remember, my motto for Day 1?? Fake it til you make it.  Yep, it works.

Have you ever dived into new situation?  If so, what was it?

Stay tuned for more fun.  Day 2 At Arnold coming up next!

Keep Smiling and Be Grateful =)

PS I’ll be sharing more photos, but in the meantime feel free to check them out here. As always, I don’t have many photos of myself, so most any of myself are courtesy of other FitFluential Ambassadors.  Thank you!
